Hub Operations Manager

RightMove Recruitment are hiring a Hub Operation Manager on behalf of our client based in Portarligton, Co. Laois.

The Hub Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Portarlington Depot, ensuring efficient and effective performance in the warehouse, managing and developing the team’s continuous development, coaching to ensure excellent performance standards, and driving and delivering measurable continuous improvement.

Purpose of Position

To achieve the key objectives with regards to service to the depot network, cost, productivity and throughput, through effective management of employees and maintenance of company operating standards.

Provide effective and strategic leadership, motivation and direction of the direct reports and their teams.

Key tasks/Areas of responsibilities


  • To hold overall responsibility for the operational processes and parcel movements in line with company policy.
  • Responsible for ensuring all company environmental policies and procedures are implemented and managed to a high standard.
  • To hold overall responsibility for holiday planning, in line with operational requirements.
  • To operate within and exceed company-set service levels for all areas of their responsibility.
  • To achieve Hub unit cost.


  • To control cost through planning and review of finance reporting procedures – use of P & L and productivity statistics.
  • To ensure compliance with Finance procedures.
  • To provide appropriate input into annual and period planning.
  • To authorise expenditure for operational needs to maintain service levels whilst controlling discretionary spending within guidelines.


  • To provide and improve support to the depot network.
  • Operations Support and other relevant departments.

Health & Safety/Security

  • To have overall responsibility for, and monitor the effectiveness of the Health and Safety policy, ensuring and maintaining a safe working environment, leading to a reduction in accident costs.
  • To have overall responsibility for a Security Policy and facilitating security awareness in line with the policy.

Human Resources

  • To control recruitment, liaise with the HR Department.
  • To manage and improve employee retention.
  • To investigate and carry out disciplinary, grievance and appeal hearings per company procedures.
  • To effectively manage all employees through communication, appraisals and training, and improve employee engagement.
  • To develop direct line managers and their reports through communication, appraisals, training and individual development and coaching.
  • To manage absence, leading to a reduction in lost time through absence and sick pay costs.

Skills and Abilities

  • Have a good level of English.
  • Proficient in computers (Excel, Word, Reporting).
  • Previous Management experience 3+ years.
  • Be an excellent timekeeper.
  • Safety awareness.
  • Past logistics experience is a must.
  • Problem solver.
  • Strong project management, coordination and time management skills.
  • Strong influence with the ability to challenge and implement change.
  • Results-driven with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Strong personality, firm but professional.
  • Good communicator and able to motivate a team.
